My friend, Steve, is going to school to learn how to produce media. He’s always had an interest in creating, so it’s wonderful seeing him in a field that will land him a job related to his interests. As he nears the end of his schooling, he’s reaching out to employers in the field for work. NorseMedia granted him an interview and requested he make a short movie over the (then) upcoming weekend so they could evaluate his skill level before they gave him the job. Simply put, a resume wasn’t sufficient; they wanted proof he could deliver.
Steve considered his options. He called and explained the situation to me, ultimately asking if he could follow me around for a day and film me doing photography for a 3 minute vignette as his submission to NorseMedia. While I’m not comfortable in front of the lens, I always seem to find myself in that very same spot when it comes to Steve. We got together and filmed it over the course of a few hours and he edited it the next day. I haven’t heard back from him about whether or not he got the job, but he sent me a link to the finished product. I think he did a great job considering the time crunch and it’s neat to see a video based on something so personal.
