Early last year, I inherited an Olympus OM-10 and began shooting color negative and black & white 35mm alongside digital. It’s been an experience, to say the least. I’ve meticulously documented all of the film stock, how much I’ve spent on film and film-related products, and how I feel about each new type of roll in a leatherbound book I’ve owned but barely used for almost 20 years. The reasoning behind the documentation is simple: if I plan to shoot analog, I’d like to organize my thoughts in an analog way, too. No, it’s not necessary, but I like it.
Always the scrapbook admirer, never the scrapbooker, this is as close as I think I’ll get to the hobby without investing much time into making it look nice. In fact, it doesn’t really look nice; it’s more of an editorialized textbook with bullet-point film stock reviews, dates and dollars, and photo recap sheets Frankensteined together into an info dump only I will probably ever care to flip through.
Anyway, I thought I would recap some photos I’ve made over the last 365 days that I thought turned out nicely for one reason or another. Obviously, I still have much to learn about both film and photography in general, but the idea of sharing the process is appealing.
Also, some of these are from the first roll I shot that I documented on this blog last year.
